Gun laws under a process in Finland
New things in these discussions are the air guns and bows.
The working group dealing with the gun laws suggests that air guns over 6.35 caliber would need to be licensed in the future.
There is no suggestion that bows should be licensed! Instead the working group agrees that bows, albeit being very effective at short distance with hunting arrows and broadheads, do not play any role in the violence, crime or accident statistics. The working group finds it unnecessary to restrict bows by making them licensed.
Also the working group points out that compared to firearms the arrows fly a relatively short distance and with slow speed, bows are difficult to transport unnoticed (hidden), the arrow penetrates poorly hard objects or wood although it travels longer than a normal rifle bullet in tissue or sand.
It is also difficult to reasonably regulate the bows, because it is relatively easy to build or buy one.
